I Don’t Know Why I’m Calling!

A very nice lady called me today. ‘How can I help you?’ I asked her. ‘I don’t know’ was the reply. I was stunned into silence. Gobsmacked. Speechless. Stupified. You get the picture?

Why phone a company if you don’t know what you want them for? She must have looked up the number, surely? Or did she just see it and think, ‘Oh, it’s a phone number. I’ll just give it a ring for the sheer hell of it.’ Or maybe she thought, ‘It’s a phone number. I ring these numbers on the device called a telephone. I’d better do it.’ Or did she thing, ‘Here’s a freephone number. I’ll give them a call and annoy them.’

I wonder if this will become a new national past-time. Ring a completely haphazard number and annoy the sh*t out of the person on the other end. Maybe it will end up as a new olympic sport. See how many random numbers you can call and how many people you can confuse in the shortest possible time.

I have no doubt that this sport will catch on very quickly. Like a pile of paper igniting.
